CANTABRIAN BEARS IN FREEDOM

Summary of pictures obtained by the FAPAS in Somiedo ( Asturias) by means of the system of hidden automatic cameras.

The work of automatic picture contributes us information on the occupation of bears certain territories, what allows then to value better the measures of protection these animals in the territories that frequent.

The photos have us allowed to observe the variety of specimens and the ages of the present bears in the western nucleus and to confirm data of indirect pursuit as for the seasonal use of the habitat.

Inside the control work and the population of bears pursuit that is carried out with automatic cameras inside the Natural Park of Somiedo in Asturias, this bear specimen, a mature male to the one is located that he lacks its right hand completely. Without a doubt, product of the fight to be released of a trap-knot placed by stealthy hunters, surely for the boar.

In the photo we can see Alfonso manipulating one of the installed cameras that it captures the step of any animal that happens for before them. This way we can identify each one of the bears that move for the territory.

That the bears live in the forests, that we all already knew it. But that ends up loving them, giving them kisses and hugs, that we never seen it.

And it seems this way to be when seeing these photos of a great hugged male the oak trunk . Besides love, there is a necessity to leave their signs of identity, scents and marks in the barks that will be good to indicate other bears who he is the owner of that territory.
